This site with the petroglyphs was also near the end of Chain of Craters Road. I read a sign that claimed the site is the biggest concentration of petroglyphs anywhere in the Hawaiian islands. There were only a few that looked like figures as seen in this picture. The vast majority of the petroglyphs here were just small rounded depressions. On some rocks they were laid out in such a way as to perhaps show a family tree. The ancient Hawaiians would place a segment of a babies umbilical cord in thes holes and cover it with a stone. They believed that the mana of this special place would grant their children Puu Loa, long life.
