The day after that we went on a hike in the Kohala Forest Reserve. This is on the northern side of the island. We hiked through lush tropical forest and saw bamboo and redwood trees? There was a great view of a lush, gigantic canyon at the end of the trail. We made it just in time -- on our way back down the fog rolled in. If we'd been a half hour later, we couldn't have seen the canyon at all we would not have even known it was there.
